WEEKLY NEWS
1. Judge Rules in Favor of ACGIH in TLV Lawsuit
A federal judge on May 6 ruled in favor of the American Council of Governmental Industrial Hygienists in a lawsuit that sought to block that group from publishing its threshold limit values (TLVs).

2. OSHA Fines Ohio Sunoco Refinery $330,000
OSHA proposed $330,000 in fines against Sunoco Inc.’s oil refinery in Oregon, Ohio, for alleged willful and serious workplace safety violations.

3. House Lawmaker Calls for Criminal Probe in Crandall Canyon Report
An investigation of the Crandall Canyon Mine disaster that left nine people dead in August 2007 prompted Rep. George, Miller D-Calif., to call for a criminal investigation against the mine's general manager. The probe’s results indicate that Crandall Canyon Mine operators may have intentionally misled MSHA about mine conditions before the fatal collapse.

4. Black Beauty Coal, EPA Reach Settlement
After being accused of working without proper permits in two Midwestern states, Black Beauty Coal Co. agreed to pay $75,000 in fines and create a forested wetland in Indiana to improve water quality.

5. Preventing Workplace Violence
Unhappy employees can result in more than decreased productivity – in extreme cases, their perceptions and actions can lead to violence in the workplace. OccupationalHazards.com spoke to an expert who shed light on how and why employees become capable of workplace violence, and what management can do to prevent potentially dangerous situations from escalating.

6. New Alliance Addresses NYC Construction Hazards
OSHA and the New York City Department of Design and Construction (DDC) formed an alliance to address construction hazards in the city’s five boroughs, with plans to cross-train their inspectors and managers on each agency’s construction safety standards, regulations and procedures.
