ANSI Appoints Board Members, Officers

On Dec. 6, the American National Standards Institute’s (ANSI) board of directors appointed its officers and nine new and five returning board members for the term beginning in 2008.

Robert W. Noth will serve his third one-year term as chairman of the board and will be joined by two re-appointed vice chairmen, Arthur Cote of the National Fire Protection Association and James T. Pauley, vice president of industry and government relations at Schneider Electric/Square D Co. Appointed vice-chairs Laura E. Hitchcock of The Boeing Company and James A. Thomas, president of ASTM International, will take the positions of retiring officers. George W. Arnold of the National Institute of Standards and Technology will continue his service as immediate past chairman.

Nine new members were elected directors-at-large and will serve three-year terms, ending Dec. 31, 2010:

  • Patrick B. Davis, Twenty in Ten coordinator, energy efficiency and renewable energy, U.S. Department of Energy
  • Bruce A. Harding, professor of mechanical engineering technology, Purdue University
  • Scott R. Klavon, director of standards, professional development and aerospace business, SAE International
  • David Miller, director of the standards program, American Petroleum Institute
  • Edward F. Mikoski, Jr., vice president for standards and business development, Telecommunications Industry Association
  • William Raisch, director, InterCEP, New York University
  • Paris Stavrianidis, general manager, FM Approvals LLC
  • James H. Turner Jr., chief counsel, Committee on Science and Technology, U.S. House of Representatives
  • F. Donald Wright, director of standards, Lexmark International

In addition to the new members of the ANSI board, five members were re-elected and will continue to serve until Dec. 31, 2010:

  • Colin B. Church, voluntary standards coordinator, Office of the Executive Director, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission
  • Steven J. Cole, president and CEO, Council of Better Business Bureaus
  • Donald R. Deutsch, vice president for standards strategy and architecture, Oracle
  • Kevan P. Lawlor, president and CEO, NSF International
  • Barbara L. Nichols, CEO, CGFNS International

The new term for all members and officers begins January 1, 2008. ANSI membership nominates and appoints new members in staggered years, so that roughly a third of the terms expire every year.
